I have an intimate experience with Shopify. The reason is because I used Shopify to sell my first every private label product, which I imported from China.
The name of my Fitness brand is “Invincilete”. If you’re wondering, I combined the words “invincible” and “athlete” together to create “Invincilete”. My message is that with an invincible attitude and invincible work ethic anything is possible.
Moving From Amazon FBA To Shopify
Anyway, I after importing 5 boxes of “Resistance bands” and “Core Sliders” from China I moved from Amazon FBA to Shopify. The reason was because Amazon had began to take 30% of my revenue and on top of that were charging $0.78 per cubic foot in the off-peak season (January–September) and $2.40 per cubic foot in the peak season (October–December). Oversized items$0.56 per cubic foot in the off-peak season and $1.40 per cubic foot in the peak seasonÂ
Storage utilization ratio $0.87 per cubic foot for standard-size items with a storage utilization ratio below 26 weeks, and $1.02–$1.19 per cubic foot for ratios of 26–39 weeks and 39+ weeks, respectivelyÂ
New sellers $0.87 per cubic foot for standard-size items for new sellers, individual sellers, and sellers with a daily volume of 25 cubic feet or lessÂ
Amazon also charges additional fees for long-term storage and inventory storage overage:
Inventory storage overage fee:Â $10 per cubic foot per monthÂ
Aged inventory surcharge: $0.50–$6.90 per cubic foot for products stored for 180 days or moreÂ
Obviously this was becoming too expensive and so I made the immediate switch to Shopify.
Boy, let me tell you, the profits soared, as I was now able to take home 100% of my revenue. In addition, I was able to build my email list and have full ownership instead being beholden to Amazon’s greedy tactics, rules and regulations.
Fun story is when my wife, son and I lived in Forest Hills, New York, I had to physically drop off the products to the post office and mail them to my customers myself. After hearing Jeff Bezos had to do the same thing, I felt happy to hear we both the same struggles.
Shopify truly made me feel like a business owner as I had my own online eCommerce storefront, access to all my customer’s pertinent details, and payment processors for my customers to easily make their purchase.
I earned $3,000 per month selling on Shopify for 1 whole year. It was a thrilling ride and experience that has helped me become the entrepreneur I am today.
